Doula Services

I am a Recognised  Doula who completed her training with Nurturing Births and also a member of Doula UK. I provide Birth Services for mothers and their partners.

So what is a Doula? The word Doule originates from Greek meaning 'caregiver'. A Doula is basically that, a person who is trained to provide practical and emotional support and information to another woman before, during and after childbirth.

So what does a Doula do? A Doula can support women and their families in a variety of ways.

Antenatal support: We will meet with the mother and her partner at least twice before the birth to talk through birth preferences, any concerns they may have, information they would like and to get to know one another and build a rapport. From 38 weeks we are on call 24/7 and will go to our client when they ask and stay and support them before they transfer to a place of birth if planning a hospital of birth centre birth or the midwives arrive for a homebirth.

Labour and Childbirth support: We provide practical, emotional and informational support to our clients, adapting to their needs as required. We offer help and support with comfort measure during labour, such as movement, massage if needed, breathing and positioning. We also encourage  partners to participate supporting the mother to the levels they are comfortable with. Mainly we are there to support, nurture and reassure the mother. We will stay with the family and support with feeding if required, until they are all happy and settled post birth. We also provide a postnatal visit to allow an opportunity to discuss their feelings post birth, provide help with infant feeding and any other areas they might need more support with.

The Basic Birth Doula Package

Once you book me we will do the following:

2  meetings before birth:

The first meeting will be an informal chat over a cuppa in the comfort of your own home. It will be an opportunity for me to get to know you and your partner and for you to get to know me. You can also phone me anytime or contact me by email to chat through any questions or concerns you may have.

The second meeting will be to discuss your birth plan and help you to write one if you haven't already. Discuss what to expect in either a hospital or home birth. What help and support you would like from me during your labour. Go through pain relief options with you. Discuss feeding options and any support you may need. The practicalities of getting to hospital if you are not having a homebirth and what you should bring. Discussing any fears you may have and any previous birth traumas if this isn't your first birth.

2 weeks before your due date and 2 weeks after if need be, I will be on call for you 24/7 ready to come to you should you go into labour. I am trained in Thai Foot massage, Indian Head massage and Rebozo scarve massage, which can all be comforting during your labour. Once your baby is born, I can support you with your first latch, should you wish to breastfeed, ensure you are comfortable and settled and leave when you are ready to be left alone with your partner to enjoy those oxytocin filled moments with your new baby.

Post birth, I will visit you twice at home to make sure you are feeling confident in looking after your baby's needs and de briefing your birth, which can be very cathartic. Answering any questions you may have or any concerns. I would also like a cuddle with your baby, as that is one of the main perks of my job, if that's ok with you.
